Last Friday, I checked out Virgola in the East Village. This oyster & wine bar recently opened, following its other established location in the West Village.
John and I spent the evening at Virgola and took advantage of a Gilt City offer that provided a bottle of wine and a variety of meats, cheeses and salads. The ambiance is dimly lit with brick walls and a wood paneled ceiling, so it felt really cozy. We spent the entire evening drinking and talking, until we had polished off the bottle of wine and cleared our plates.
The manager prepared his favorites for us, which consisted of 4 italian cheese and meat selections, along with a caprese salad and artichokes marinated in sea salt and olive oil. Everything was so delicious, fresh and authentic. The mozzarella in the caprese salad was so creamy, I was a little surprised at how good it was! We also had a bottle of their house Pinot Grigio, which also pleasantly surprised me. I usually don’t drink Pinot Grigio, but this one was so light and had fruity notes that made it so easy to drink.
There are so many wines to choose from here, and I heard that their oysters and seafood are really good too so I’ll have to go back soon to try more of the menu items.
Thanks to Gilt City for sending me on the date night of my choice 🙂
