With so many things demanding my attention during the work week, I’ve been finding it more and more important to prioritize ‘detox’ time. I try to accomplish this in various ways, and this past weekend I chose to get out of the city, spend time with family, and get a healthy dose of nature 🙂
My sis, her boyfriend, John and I took a ride to visit my parents at their vacation home upstate, and the four of us found Falling Waters Preserve, a gorgeous hiking trail along the Hudson River in Glasco. It’s called Falling Waters because there are several small natural waterfalls along the trail, with a gorgeous one at the end that finishes into a peaceful stream.
I seriously intend to do this more often. I found myself taking in all of this natural beauty, which rendered my typical ‘New York City’ fears of being eaten by bears nonexistent.
John showed a side of himself I’ve never seen before. As much as I know he’s resourceful and prepared for anything, the Eagle Scout in him really came out as he effortlessly climbed all the way to the top of the cliffs for a bird’s eye view to direct us back when we strayed too far from the trails, climbing over large rocks and in between trees to steal perfect views of the Hudson River.
This was also a dog friendly hiking trail! Even though we did bring Minnie on this trip with us, I didn’t take her on the hike because it was pretty hot out and she doesn’t have much endurance.
We spent the rest of the weekend relaxing and napping, and saved the last of our energy for barbecuing and roasting s’mores 🙂
