John and I recently celebrated our 5 year anniversary. Celebrations for us typically entail a nice brunch or dinner followed by some quality time together, since we’re always so busy.
The Mondrian Hotel in SoHo has honestly become my one-stop shop for any type of celebration, day or night. These photos are from brunch at the pretty restaurant Isola, and I also celebrated my birthday this year at the rooftop lounge Sonny’s Soda Shoppe which is probably my favorite rooftop in the city. The year before that, I did my birthday at the club Mister H, which is at the bottom level of the Mondrian. Never a disappointment.
John and I really enjoyed brunch at Isola. We ordered a few of the signature cocktails, and I really liked The Burnfield which was made with Tequila, fresh lemon, apple cider, caramel & nutmeg – perfect winter drink. John had the Bloody Caprese which was garnished with parmesan cheese and some type of enormous capers.
To eat, I had the Eggs al Forno, which had roasted tomatoes, escarole, guanciale (an Italian cured meat), and herbed breadcrumbs – SO GOOD. This dish was my fave. John ordered the porchetta hash, and we shared the Uovo brunch pizza and a side of berries (to balance out the fatness that we had before us).
Aside from the food, the original reason I wanted to check out Isola was because of the ambiance. It kind of feels like a greenhouse in the winter because it’s enclosed with glass, but you still have the vibe of being outdoors because of all the plants they have inside. The view of the massive bar is framed by glass chandeliers and the center of the glass ceiling is decorated with glass canisters of all shapes and sizes. It’s really cool and unique. I really want to try this place again for dinner.
