Can you tell that it’s kind of raining on us in these photos?? The weather has been so iffy in the city lately, one minute it’s gorgeous and sunny and the next minute it’s raining. I recently grabbed lunch with a friend and shortly after we sat down, the sky got overcast and it started to drizzle. We had Minnie with us, so we couldn’t sit inside the restaurant. Luckily it’s almost Summer and warm enough that a little rain can’t hurt us. We embraced the moment and enjoyed lunch with a side of raindrops 🙂
The South Street Seaport area is starting to transform to be a fun destination, filled with popup shops, tons of yummy food trucks, and entertainment including outdoor musical performances and movie screenings. If you travel just a block away on Front Street, you’ll find some delicious local bars and restaurants that are just far enough away from the crowds and tourists. Among the tastiest restaurants on this strip is Nelson Blue, an adorable spot with a great bar, great food, and a nautical vibe.
We ordered the chicken skewers, zucchini corn fritters, and mussels in a deliciously refreshing curry broth. Everything was really tasty and served with unique complimentary dipping sauces. Nelson Blue is known for their fresh seafood, so it was no surprise that the mussels were my favorite dish!
There was a decent crowd on a weekday afternoon, and I’ve also seen Nelson Blue get packed on Saturdays and Sundays for brunch. If you’re in the Downtown/Lower Manhattan area, I definitely recommend stopping by the South Street Seaport to see the new vendors that have come to the area for the summer, and to stop by Nelson Blue for a tasty bite.
