If you follow Minnie in Manhattan on Instagram, you already know that I took a quick trip to San Francisco for work last week. This was my first time in San Francisco, and although I didn’t get to stay long, I took in as much as I could. I made it a point to explore and snap a few photos at the Ferry Building Marketplace before the sun set on the last night before I headed back to NYC.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I arrived in San Francisco, since I’ve never been to Cali before. I was surprised to see how much it reminded me of New York: there’s a Chinatown, Union Square, and even a Fulton Street.

If I could compare San Francisco’s Ferry Building to a place in NYC, I would say that it’s almost like a cross between Grand Central Terminal and the South Street Seaport. The Ferry Building is a central travel hub in San Francisco, positioned beautifully on the Embarcadero along the water, and it’s filled with fresh food shops and restaurants. I was in the mood for something sweet, so I stopped into Miette, a charming pastry shop that offers cakes, candies, and all kinds of pastries.

I tried two cupcakes: chocolate with strawberry buttercream, and gingerbread with cream cheese frosting. They were both delicious. I also couldn’t resist trying the Chocolate Pot de Creme, which had a rich nutty chocolate flavor with a creamy whipped topping. What makes this dessert even more irresistible is that once you eat it, you have an adorable mini mason jar left behind to reuse. I also picked up some sweet treats for the road, including yummy flavored mini chocolate bars (cardamom, earl grey tea, rose, sea salt, and orange & geranium)… okay, so I went a little crazy.

My appetite didn’t stop there, I also stopped into Humphry Slocombe for their Peanut Butter chocolate chip ice cream and then picked up some ‘real food’ from Bouli Bar for good measure.

Unfortunately, this trip was so hectic with last minute traveling and all-day work meetings, so I couldn’t bring Minnie with me. Besides, I try not to have her sitting in a hotel room alone all day, so John got her all to himself for the two days I was away. When I finally arrived home, she welcomed me back with one of the most energetic greeting dances I’ve gotten in a long time 🙂
