I’n kind of picky when it comes to my brunch spots in NYC. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect brunch experience, which, according to me, has to include outdoor seating (in the warmer months), delicious food, cute decor, and unique drinks. I love restaurants that put a spin on the traditional brunch items we all know so well.
44 1/2 is a restaurant I visited recently that offers everything on my brunch check-list. Although the outdoor seating area is tiny, it’s adorably decorated, each table covered in a white tablecloth complete with rolled pink napkins and a bright rose. Minnie was allowed to sit with us in the outdoor space, and even though we had to squeeze behind a few diners’ chairs to access our table, everyone was super friendly and greeted Minnie as we made our way to our seats.
This place exudes a feminine and classy vibe, but that doesn’t mean that there are any shortage of guys here to enjoy the delicious menu options. The brunch menu is really extensive, and I have no doubt there’s something for everyone. From refreshing lighter options like granola and fruit to more hearty plates such as breakfast sandwiches and pizzas, the menu really will blow your mind.
We ordered Bloody Marys and Bellinis to start, followed by the Hanger Steak and Eggs and the Deep Dish French Toast. Everything was so yummy. The Hanger Steak and Eggs came with french fries and house made hollandaise, and the Deep Dish French Toast was so unique, with pecans, sweet brioche, and applewood smoked bacon. The food was so delicious that we lost all control and housed our meals, but next time I’ll be sure to eat slow because it was really filling. You will definitely not leave 44 1/2 hungry!
Minnie particularly enjoyed munching on the hanger steak and a couple of french fries here and there. What I loved most about 44 1/2 aside from the food was the attention to detail – everything is made to look beautiful, from the miniature muffin that daintily sits on each bread plate to the garnish on the cocktails and the perfect slice of lemon in the icy cold water glasses. The staff was friendly and attentive, despite the fact that the restaurant was packed.
The next place I want to try is next door, and it’s their sister restaurant: 44 and X, which is known to be so pet friendly they even offer their patron pups a personal water bowl and a treat 🙂
